What exactly does it mean when people add comments to their coin or note?

I depends wholly on the comment I suppose.  What comment(s) are you referring to?

What exactly does it mean when people add comments to their coin or note?

Most of the time when people add a value in a public comment, it’s the value they want in return when they swap the particular item. When you buy a coin for more than the Numista value, you don’t want to swap it away for less than you paid for it, right?

It could also be a note of a variety, like “bold text”, “2 far away”, “thick J” etc, which isn't specified in the date list.

I use comments for add the quality of my swap object (UNC, worn, dirty…) and if are reserved in swaps. I use the legacy display.
