About mark ~•~ (point between two S lying down) [Risolto]

There at some pieces of exonumia

(perhaps more, and coins) with this mint mark (France 1937-1970, more or less)

but I do not know the mint with this mark. I have searched in https://en.numista.com/catalogue/mints.php but I can not search by or see images in only one page.

Is it in Numista?

Edit: It is a decoration, not a mint mark.

and coins)

If you could identify some coins with the mark we could look it up in coin references. (Probably not me as I will be leaving most of my coin references behind for a few days.)

Sorry, I cannot.

Hello,

This looks more like a decoration than a mintmark to me, especially as the shape of the wave (or lying S) varies significantly from one token to the other.

I checked “World of Tokens”, but it didn't bring much more information:

The tokens were produced in two mints: the state mint in Paris (mintmark cornucopia) and a private mint that left no mint mark, but replaced the Paris mint mark with a decoration.

I suppose World of Tokens has more exact data than French Wikipedia (Wikipedia is a purpose general site and World of Tokens is specific for tokens):

  • Sizes: Wikipedia say 24 mm and 19.5 mm. World of Tokens say 24 mm and 19.5 to 20 mm.
  • Mark ~•~: Wikipedia implies that it is a mint mark of a private company. World of Tokens say it is a decoration and the private company has not mint mark.

If there are nothing against, I will submit modification requests for:

  • remove the image of ~•~ from comments (it is not a mint mark), and
  • add to comments the phrase “The tokens were produced in two mints: the state mint in Paris (mintmark cornucopia) and a private mint that left no mintmark, but replaced the Paris mintmark with a decoration (~•~).”
