Sorry if this has been proposed before, but I couldn't seem to find it, if that's the case.
I don't know how feasible this will be, but when adding links to the “see also” section, could the link of the item I'm working on, be added to the page of the item I just added a link of? Since I think when you add a link to item A, of item B, it's useally also relevant the other way with a link of item A to item B? I at least can't think of any situatons where it can only be one relevans?
So if I add a link to item A of item B. Item B automaticly gets a link to item A.
Or any argument against? :)
Beside maybe a risk of confusion with the already added link? Double adding..? 🤔

I could see an issue if the link goes to an item under a different referee.
Well yeah, that could be a difference of opinion, if the link is necceray. But maybe there can be a work around there? Like if it goes to another referee, have it as a modification request?
Or if it's a non-referee member, then only one referee from any of the issuer has to accept it?
Or if the one referee reject it, it can still be on one page and not the other, if this is implemented..?
I just think it could be convenient the link automaticly added both ways :)

I am all for any automatization, but there is one problem with this. It is great to link patter withbfinal design, but there is no need to link it back from standard coin. Especially when there are multiple designs/metal varieties/piedforts etc that should be all linked to standard coin that would be overwhelmed with too many links.
Solution would be a checkbox: when needed, I click on it and it create change request between items in the both directions.
But this would be a tech challenge I guess because currentlt see also field is a list (not a series.of independent fields) meaning we have no way to know which link is concerned by this potential checkbox.
Also I'm not sure it is easy to check on the fly if the link already exists, to avoid double linking.

Yes, it is not possible. The field of links is a multi line text field (a “textarea”).
I can think of two solutions, but maybe it's too much work for what we want to achieve…
Before, suppose we
Ncurrent is the page of the request,
N1, N2, N3, N4 and N5 are five pages to add in link section,
N2, N3 and N5 need link in both directions.
Solution 1 (I think this is more simple)
Add a special character (e.g. *) before all urls we want to link in both directions.
Steps:
We fill the field with:
N1 *N2 *N3 N4 *N5
and submit the request.
When the request is accepted, before publish the page, the system reads the lines of this field:
if a line starts with * (e.g. *Nx), the system
adds Ncurrent in the field of links of the page Nx, and
remove the character * in the line,
else (the line is Nx) does nothing.
The system publish the page.
Solution 2
Add a second temporary field of links, used with urls to link in both directions.
Steps:
We fill the original field of links with normal urls
N1 N4
fill the temporary field with urls to link in both directions
N2 N3 N5
and submit the request.
When the request is accepted, before saving the page, the system reads the lines (Nx) of the temporary field,
adds Ncurrent in field of links of the page Nx, and
add Nx to the original field of links (the temporary field will be destroyed).
The system publish the page.

This is easy to program (unless I missed something!).

It sounds like it can be done in a few different ways, so what is the chance for Xavier and the new developer can implement this?
Seems to be more people for than against, based on what I can see, although not so many people have voted :)

Aside from the general effort saving, this would be useful when adding a new item to the catalog. My current process is to create the new page with links, watch the request, and create the reverse links when the page is approved. Avoiding the need to regularly revisit the new page would be a big improvement.
Add a special character (e.g. *) before all urls we want to link in both directions.
What would happen when you edit a page? Would the text box for links come with “*” at the front where there are already links back?
(I suspect some users wouldn't read the text, wouldn't understand the purpose of the *, and either remove the * or would add it to all lines thinking it was list markup.)

Solution 2
Add a second temporary field of links, used with urls to link in both directions.
Similarly, would this be pre-populated with existing reverse links and allow some reverse links to be removed by removing lines from the field?
I think the two field option would be easier to understand than the special character option. Switching from a text box to a list of items (like the mint list) would be much more work, but would allow for a check-box and probably be easier to understand.
My current process is to create the new page with links, watch the request, and create the reverse links when the page is approved.
No need to wait, create the page then copy the page link of the new page and add cross references to the other page(s). Then if it gets approved or rejected the referee can verify/reject them at the same time.

When you open the edit a page, there are not *.
In the step 2.1.2 (see https://en.numista.com/forum/topic132924.html#p1073378) the system removes the character * after adding the reverse link on the other page, so the characters * are not saved on the page (they say to system where it must to create reverse links and then are removed).

No, my suggestion is only to create reverse links, not to remove them (but it would be possible).
When you open the edit a page, the temporary field of links is empty.

Yes, it would be. It also depends on the interface and the messages that are displayed. For example:
Option 1, with special character.Option 2, with a temporary field.
I add these images to my previous post.

It would be nice to indicate with checkboxes when to create reverse links, but there is a problem: the links where the checkboxes are placed can be added at the same moment (we do not have an invariably list of links).
