Regarding 2 Kroner "Mor Norge" - Haakon VII Constitution <https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces23426.html> ;
I see many of these coins have X (cross mark) on the reverse side.
What is this? It would be great if you experts could tell me what it is.

That's very interesting, I never knew this was a thing, though I have wondered about it -
My example has the cross on the other side!

Yes, I'm talking about this coin <https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces23426.html> ;
Is this something like sticker attached at the original sales? That's my guess.
But why cross X mark ???

Double-sided scotch to adhere the coin to something (paper?) The cross would make it stable.*

I have no idea but it seems to me that there are too many examples of this unless they all came from the same collection?

Since they don't seem to be in the same place, nor having the same dimensions, I don't see, how it can have come from the minting process?

Maybe they were mass tested at a bank and those are the remaining marks left from the test?

But only this coin? I haven't done any extensive search but can't recall similar marks on other Norway coins of the same time period.

As previously mentioned by Idolenz, my first thought was possibly an acid test for authenticity and purity on a large scale. Keep in mind the limited mintage, the start of WW1, and the resulting economic damage to Norway,
Edit - NGC shows the same PMD on it's example.

I guess that's as good as any (so far) explanation. I would think this coin , minted in the same time frame with the same amount of silver and similar mintage would have been treated similarly. I couldn't find any similar markings.

The only difference is that one is a one off year circulating commemorative just at the start of WWI and the other was already circulating for several years by 1914 and the general population as well as the banks were more familiar with them. It's all speculation in the end.

I can see during that time with the civil unrest and the changes in the political and monetary institutions in Norway that there would be some fear of counterfeiting to destabilize Norway. I think we can safely say the marks for whatever reason were contemporary.

yes, apparently very many of these coins were methodically marked with a cross of adhesive tape when they were new.
after time, the adhesive dried up and the tape fell off, leaving a different toning underneath.
I am looking forward to learning the true story.
I imagine it had a political or religious meaning.
