References - link to full series insetad of multiple links

Currently we can add the link to other coin pages (in section References), adding it one by one… I usually add some, like in case where the coin is issued in different metal (CuNi, Ag, Au) so i try to add the two other in reference. If more coins issued in series, I add the series instead of adding multiple references.

However, what in case if the coin is not a part of series (or is part of one series) but refers to another one full series. We have another series that can be used and we can link only to the individual coins in reference field.

My proposition is to allow to add the full series in Reference section.

Example: in 1993 Gibraltar issued the series of silver and gold coins for Japanese Royal Wedding with two Peacocks: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?ct=coin&se=Japanese+Royal+Wedding&e=gibraltar

In 1997 one of two designs used in 1993 (slightly modified) was used again on different coins with Peacock. N#79965. It was issued with no connection to any event in Japanses Royal family, so this is not the same series. Of course, I can add multiple references but better to add only one link that redirect you to full series from 1993.

The ‘See also’ section is for things that could be mistaken for another (very similar design, different metals like you've already mentioned), the example you've listed is only similar to a few items in the series so I would just link the ones with the same design like N#347885  and N#79965  in the See also section.

I'm sure you already know about this, you can always put an hardcoded link into the comments section, by copying series URL like this one.

I know Xavier is working on a solution (database with unique identifier) for SERIES maybe it will solve this issue.

Yes, not full series has the same design (even full series is with peackok) but there are 4 similar coins from 1993, 3 from 1997 and one from 1998 so 7 links… and it was only an example for the coin that I just added.

Sometimes there are series and the similar series issued few years later that arebworth to link each other (British Virgin Islands series with Sunken Treasury from 1985 and from 1988, each with 20+ coins… for Canada we can also easily find similiar series with Silver and Gold Maple Leafs).

URL link is a solution but not looks good (however this can be nice text with hidden long link).

We will see if this will be possible with new setup of series.
