Enhanced display of lettering

Hello,

A new feature was released to enhance the display of lettering of coins, banknotes, and exonumia in the catalogue. The lettering are now shown with the correct font, based on the script of the lettering. This is useful in two situations:

1. For some historical scripts or unusual scripts, your computer or phone may not be able to display the characters by default. With this new feature, if the field for the script is populated, the correct font will be loaded so that you can see the characters.

See before and after, for Tangut and Tengwar scripts:

2. In some scripts, characters may differ significantly depending on the style of calligraphy. The lettering is now shown in the same style as on the coin, in order to be transcribe the lettering as faithfully as possible. As readers may not be accustomed to the specific style, the lettering is also repeated in a regular style.

See before and after, for Latin uncial script, Chinese seal script and Persian nastaliq script:

This currently applies to the follow script styles: Latin uncial, Latin Fraktur blackletter, Persian nastaliq and Chinese seal script.

For Latin uncial, see the dedicated forum discussion: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic133669.html

Technical limitations:

  • If the lettering contains multiple styles of the same script, the second point described above does not work.
  • Both points are applicable only on the page of the given coin, banknote, or piece of exonumia. It does not work on the edit page, change request pages, etc.

This is really cool! 🤩 Thanks a lot!

Nice addition to the feature catalog!
