I think we should divide Free Discussion, up into 2 parts. The first part is for all the threads related to coins, like people buying them etc, new acquisitions, storing, slabbing, showing collections on a theme and ditto for medals and banknotes.

Second part should be for garbage threads like Memes and other non coin threads like food, travel, pets, jobs and other hobbies (Stamps, keys etc).

Really think a meme thread showing wrestlers doing fingers to each other is scraping the bottom of the barrel here and we should be able to keep IQ levels of this site in 3 figures here. I do realise we have a group of 15 year olds who just have to be kids, but what about us 50 year olds who actually come here to talk about coins, not memes and anime.

Also if we put all the newbies who join, only to see what their coin is worth in a separate section and same with the practical joker types who show fakes and altered coins.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Well, the key term here is “free”.

I also think you ask for too much when you say:

we should be able to keep IQ levels of this site in 3 figures here.

What ypu don't seem to realise it that the averge IQ is 85-115. This means that an IQ of 90 is in the average spectrum, and totally normal – even though it's “only” a two digit IQ.

In most cases the title reveals what the content is all about, so it's really easy to avoid these threads – especially if you have a IQ level of 3 figures.

I'm not a fan of threads like that either, so I avoid them. You should try it. I'm sure you'll feel better doing that.

Very respectful & constrained opinion ngdawa.

Part of my work involves dealing with people who are on  different spectrums of intelligence. Very enriching experience.

Wish people came off their high horses and spoke to us mere mortals with respect - no matter what their views or choices were.

Humour has a wide range.

Being grumpy is not one of them.

Yes but numismatics are generally considered a high intelligence hobby. When I say numismatics, I mean serious collectors, not people left piles of coins or ones who think they can fool us by saying their Chinese fake coin is the real thing.

The IQ Listing I use is that Average is 100 - 115 and IQ's in the 85 - 99 range are Below Average or Low Average at best. When you get down to an IQ of 85 you are dropping from the 50th percentile to around the 15th. At IQ85 you have people who love Nascar, did not finish high school, listen to rap, skank pop or metal, work a labouring type job and hardly read at all. The chances of someone in that group who seriously collects coins is minimal, yet a person with an IQ of say 120, is very likely to be collecting coins. Its obvious they will read heavily and have a good general knowledge of the world and show an inquiring mind, that makes coins more interesting to them, beyond just getting them. Like me, they will want to understand why the coin was made, what it was made of and the context of its issuance.

My IQ is above average, but its not that high - still high enough for me to love the challenge of numismatics and our forums should reflect that. Threads about junk coins from China faking mills, memes showing wrestlers and people asking how much some piece of cheap junk from 1980 do not reflect that. Give them their own thread and we will stay away as ngdawa suggests.

3 people agree with me at least.

Hello.

Why would you use IQ as an argument? Probably a lot people became sales(wo)man with an IQ of 130. Everyone can start numismatics and collecting, it's just what you find relaxing or challenging. Everyone has their strong sides. I am quite a lot above average, and i don't use it in arguments and i don't brag with it, but i can still enjoy memes.

I won't post anymore in these “war-threads”, it is just exhausting for everyone to see my (and everbodies) reply.

Be kind everyone.
