Isn't there a way to just have the present day Syria on top?

The good fix would be that any perfect match of the chain of characters you look for amongst first level issuers is put on top of the list indeed

This request is more an “idea to improve numista” than a “modification or creation of country”

Sorting correctly help us to better tackle requests :-)

Call it what you want, plenty of other EXISTING countries are treated like that. I know, since I still try to use Numista some scores of time each day! It's getting hindered more and more by a lot of senseless decisions about “ownership” to a piece of land from the past!

Syria is one of these country name so ancient that they can be linked to many many different issuers (Greece, Rome, Islamic states…); this is not really an example, more of an edge case.

Also, blame alphabetical order instead of us. Currently we alphabeticcally sort by main issuer. Not my fault than Greece, Rome etc come before Syria itself. It is why I offered a solution to your problem but you seem to prefer say anything but constructive reasoning here

I would like to see the “real existing countries” in the first place and then the historic fall-outs behind, that's all I asked for?

And how would you do that, technically speaking ? Search results are just linked to codelines based on logic. Any new logic suggestion is welcome :-)

And also: you prefer maybe modern countries. What do we do for users looking for ancient ones?

I agree there is some room for improvement here. I converted this discussion into a suggestion and I'll look for a solution.
Maybe showing the issuers on a single line would help showing them all without scrolling, so you can more easily find the Syria you are looking for.
