Hey, I was wondering if anyone has ever thought to create a regional meet up group using the email from Numista.

I've been going to coin shows again, and it seems like a good time/place to meet.  I've got some higher value coins/currency I'm really not that interested in mailing.  But if people were meeting in person, we could buy or sell or trade, and hopefully a better deal than the overpriced items at coins shows.

If there was someone who was interested in being a regional meet up facilitator, they way it could work is for Numista to send an email to everyone in the region, identifying the facilitator with his Numista screen name, and/or a link to a discussion folder.  If they want to private message, they could send an email address for upcoming meet ups and take it off site at that point.  That way it's strictly opt-in.

Numista is a diverse place

For example, Xavier is in France, Jarcek in Czechia, I in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and you in Corvallis, Oregon, USA

It is not possible to make regional groups, you can't divide America into 50 groups - 1 for each state - They are humongous, but, have a district facilitator for each state, ensuring that they function properly & clearly, avoiding conflicts of ideas, looking for the most appropriate person to take the position is a big task, which is a huge task currently for Numista's current capacity

But, Your idea is Awesomee!!

I suggest that you write in Free Discussion more about your plans for your local community

Thanks for responding!

I got the idea when I was first kicking around the site and clicked on Swaps.  Under Swaps you can sort by country, and then by distance.  And while many folks don’t display their town on their profile, some of this information is in the system.

I’m also not suggesting Numista take this on automatically for every region.  Rather it would be more whoever volunteered and if could Numista generate a one-off email saying: A meet up group for Oregon is getting established, private message CoinsInOR if you’d like to be informed of upcoming events.
