Hey everyone,

I've noticed a few ancient coins now have purities for silver like this one N#53247

I don't know about you but in my opinion ancient coins should not have purities listed as a specific value like this. They didn't have precise enough refining on ancient coins to have an exact purity every time and its more of a range of purity. There are also not many tests on the purity of each coin type like this. Instead of filling out the purity field like this I feel it would be better to, if at all necessary, leave a comment on the average purity.

Thank you

I agree that exactly .900 is a bit weird. What I did for some old Bohemian coins (and what catalogues do as well) is to add average purity into the field.

An improvement idea for Numista would be to allow ranges in purity, diameter and weight fields probably?

That definitely would be a great idea. A lot of ancient coins and also most of the Canadian Colonial tokens have a weight  and diameter range.

Weight ranges is already proposed here:  https://en.numista.com/forum/topic116866.html

Only diameter range hasn't yet been proposed.
