I would like to share some statistics about how the Numista catalogue grew in 2023.
- 4 172 people contributed to the catalogue. I would like to warmly thank them all!
- 1 163 363 modifications were made to the catalogue (2.2 modifications per minute!), not counting automatic modifications (for example, 68 508 sales records were added automatically)
- 38 165 new types were added to the catalogue, reaching the milestone of 350k types described!
- 16 453 new coin types, increasing the count of coin types from 191 773 to 208 226 (+9%)
- 4 636 new banknote types, increasing the count of banknote types from 34 685 to 39 321 (+13%)
- 17 076 new exonumia types, increasing the count of exonumia types from 86 716 to 103 792 (+20%)
Not only the catalogue went bigger; significant efforts were spent by many contributors to enrich the quality of the catalogue.
The “coverage” below represents the proportion of coin, banknote or exonumia types where a given piece of information is provided. Numbers are compared between the first day and the last day of 2023.

- The number of reference catalogues in the database increased from 6 678 to 10 431 (+56%)
- Coin coverage: increased from 84% to 91%
- Banknote coverage: increased from 47% to 85%
- Exonumia coverage: increased from 21% to 33%
- Artists (engravers and designers)
- The number of artists in the database increased from 745 to 1094 (+47%)
- Coin coverage: increased from 27% to 28%
- Banknote coverage: increased from 4% to 7%
- Exonumia coverage: increased from 8% to 10%

- The number of reference catalogues in the database increased from 2 087 to 2 396 (+15%)
- Coin coverage: increased from 85% to 88%
- Banknote coverage: decreased from 74% to 72%
- Exonumia coverage: increased from 27% to 29%

- The number of scripts in the database increased from 81 to 101 (+20%)
- Coin coverage: increased from 52% to 84%
- Banknote coverage: increased from 24% to 47%
- Exonumia coverage: increased from 47% to 78%
- Mints
- The number of mints in the database increased from 3 922 to 4 215 (+7%)
- Coin coverage: increased from 50% to 60%

- The number of mint marks and other marks in the database increased from 516 to 2 493 (+383%)
- Coin coverage: increased from 13% to 18%
- Printers
- The number of printers in the database increased from 152 to 773 (+409%)
