Improved search function

Okay first of all the search is great, thank you.  Yet it could use some improvement.
For example there is no way to search coins by width even though there's a field in the catalog for this value.
Another thing is it's impossible to search for a specific alloy.
If I search for nickel I get every possible alloy containing nickel rather than just pure nickel.
You also can't search for commemoratives, shape, date of demonetization etc.

Is there perhaps a way to go around this limitation already?
Not sure about width...but I think if you type "         " around the word/s that should specify that you just want to see that particular allow...I think. So for instance if you wanted all Copper Nickel Zinc coins, you'd type "Copper Nickel Zinc" in the search field...haven't tried it but I think that is how it works.

That's how it should work, but it doesn't. It would be cool if you could use Nickel NOT Copper to get all nickel but not copper-nickel.
I'm sorry it doesn't. I know it works for some criteria...and I agree that the search function needs improving.
This topic made me search my collection for all KM#1's. This proved to be quite challenging. In Advanced Search, entered 1 in KM#/C#/Y# field and selected "in" for Your collection... The result contains all coins that have number one in their KM/C/Y #'s. So obviously the search query is using a "contains" constraint. Tried entering double-quotes around 1 but get same result. I'm not sure doing a contains logic for this field is very useful. I mean, when I'm searching for a particular number that's what I want to find just like a particular year. I'd find it more useful if searching by this number would have the logic similar to the year search (where you can specify a range).
Actually, I understand that KM/C/Y numbers are not always numeric. So maybe adding a check box to indicate exact match could be an option?..
The search logic is not smart here.  I have long wanted to search for all coins from 1981 that do NOT contain silver, but have had no luck with any search syntax.  Help!

Try searching for copper. That way you seem to get all alloys that contain any copper which is nearly everything but stainless steel and nickel plated plated steel.

This omits "nickel", "bronze", "brass", "aluminum", "zinc", "iron"....

okay you are half right, yet I imagine there are few coins minted in these metals in 1981, except brass and bronze which will be included. Not really sure how that works but it does.
I just tried to search tin - 2366 coins were found, mostly made of "bronze." This certain piece of logic should be removed, I only wanted to find Tin coins.  ;(

Hi Guys! Any updates on fixing the search? I encountered the same issue while searching for coins by width. It is still not working.

Hi Guys! Any updates on fixing the search? I encountered the same issue while searching for coins by width. It is still not working.

This post is 13 years old, from the early days of Numista, search options have greatly changed since.

Please open a new post to report a bug if you find any issues. Clearly describe the issue, including the search link that you used and what you were expecting to receive.

Hi, Bram!

My bad, it's working, I was checking in the wrong place.
Quick question: I also want to search for the coin thickness. Should I use the Width filter?

You cannot yet seach for thickness. Suggestion is tracked here: Request thickness be added as a numerical range search filter – Numista

Edit: you can check thickness of your own coins by exporting your collection
