Numista generally shows one coin/banknote/exonumia as a reference example.  Zeno, the more pictures, the merrier.   Some coin/banknote/exonumia are so freaking rare there are probably only less than 200 of them in the world.

It would be nice to have an adjacent page to the reference/main page where users can upload additional pictures of coin/banknote/exonumia in their collection with source/auction information versus external links or photos in the comment section of the main page.  However, I would limit it to extremely rare coins/banknotes/exonumias, say less than 500.

It should be up to the Numista's Referee if this option should be activated when a  page is created/modified. Certain categories may have it on as a default - for example, hammered coins & ancient coins. Once a Gallery Page is created - I suggest no more than 50 images may be added.

I believe such feature will be visual improvement and create a better user experience.

Since Numista does not allow sales, who will spend their precious time on just adding images to numista?

At UCoin they have that feature, since the people selling their coins have to show the image corresponding to their coin..

It would not be for selling - more for determining Die Variation and when coins are struck of flan.   Thus if a user has a coin that is rather difficult to identify - multiple images may be helpful.

That I have understood, and I can only agree with you, but to spend my time to enter the images of 43 000 coins and more to numista, no thanks. I'll be dead before having finished….. not even a joke!

That is why I would limit it to certain types of coins at the referee's discretion (after it is the referee that has to vet it)  Let's be honest: most coins (75 %) have full dies and are readily easy to identify and understand; thus, this feature would not be applicable to them.

The idea itself is good for variety hunters like me, so more images of a given year the better, that's what UCoins offer, as already said the participants send their images, because they want to sell or exchange those coins…. I suppose the images stay in UCoins ever after, but I'm not sure .

+1 for one coin per year or variation

The development for a gallery of examples is already started 🙂

We don't plan any limit: it will be available for all coins, banknotes and exonumia items. Even for types that are not extremely rare, I think it's interesting to have many illustrations, potentially showing various varieties, grades, etc.

I will mock up what I envision as a photo gallery with Jpeg within the week and submit it to you for your consideration.

Here is a preview of the work in progress:

On top of the pictures, you can add measurements, archeological context and a comment.

Pictures can be from your own collection or from an institution that gave us permission.

Will it be possible to use the images for variant descriptions?

I hope the resolution is at least up to the demanded standard for coin images in the numista pages and the images will be cropped, in your example they are not!

As promised, this is a mock-up of what I envision for Numista's website in the future.

After you do an item search and select the item in question, it will take you to a page shown below.  This page has either three tabs or buttons on its name:  Attributes, Gallery, and Talk.  It is up to the Referee to enable the Gallery and Talk page.

The Gallery Page has a Search Filters functionality and “Photo View” or “Photo with Details  View”    The Photos only shows the Obv, Rev, Copyright Image information, Numista #, weight, diameter, and date.   This layout was inspired by Oswal Antiques.

If you click on the image, it will get bigger and encompass the screen it will then show past Auction information along with Special Notes.   It would be sweet to be able to add active links that will take you to the auction website showing the item as well.

Finally, the talk page utilizes the current Forum style but on a more limited basis.

This mock-up does not go into the itty gritty - this is just a birds-eye view from looking down per se.  So tell me what you think. I look forward to the comments.

I updated the mock-up design.  I added more features and fixed some oversights.
