Different totals in coins/different coins in my collection [Risolto]

As I only collect coins by type, these two totals should be the same, which they have been for quite some time.

All of a sudden, without adding anything to my collection, these two total are no longer the same, but “coins” is 1 higher in total than “different coins”.

Is there a quick way to ascertain where this error can be sorted.

Thanks in advance

I answered a similar question here:  https://en.numista.com/forum/topic112026.html

See if that works for you.

I did not completely understand what the answer was, so tried the following.

4 columns used

Issuer.    N#.     Quantity. Collection.

When I downloaded my complete collection, I then clicked on the arrow next to Quantity, but only a 1 appeared in the drop down box. This means, as far as I am aware, that everything in the list has a quantity of 1, so this did not sort out error.

Did the sum of all those 1's equal “coins” or equal “different coins”?  You may have entered the same coin/year twice.

Does your collection only consist of one N# each?  No different year lines for the same coin type?

The list is equal to “coins”, so “ different coins” is -1.

As I collect by type only, it should not have any duplicate lines, but as the down load drop box contained only a 1, there could not be any coin listed as 2

Not listed as 2 but like this:

That's easy to find as the same N# will be listed on 2 lines in a row.

Assuming your exported file looks like this:

In column E row 2 type this:  =B2=B1:

Then select and drag to the last row. You'll have mostly FALSE's but one TRUE.  There you'll find your duplicate.

My major problem is the fact that I have 16,217 coins, so do not want to look through the whole collection. There must be an easy fix

Easy fix:

Another way, if this is a recent difference, is to look at your recent collection changes:  https://en.numista.com/vous/journal.php?s=2024-01-01&e=2024-02-13

See if you can find one entered twice or one that should have been for swap but you didn't select For exchange : yes.

This morning, I tried the =B2=B1 and it did not work as I had expected.

I did get TRUE/FA:LSE but if a coin I had was listed as KM#46.1 and another as KM46.2, then the listing gave me a TRUE and FALSE against one and the other, but as they are different catalogue numbers, they are separate coins.

I will check my recent updates later today as it is breakfast time

Sorted.

Checked through from January 1st until today and somehow, a coin I needed to remove from my swap list became added to me collection.

Now, I do not understand why, when I downloaded my collection, there was not an entry total of two.

Strange

Thanks to all for there information and help

Yes that will happen when only comparing the N#. That's why in the original post N#, year and mint mark were used.

I'm glad you found it. Something like that would drive me crazy.
