Chrome Extension for a more detailed Numista map

Pubblicazioni di 5 • visto 196 volte

Hello all,

I have a background in computer science and an interest in political geography. It has always annoyed me that Poland was the county I had the most coins from as it counts Poland + Germany 1871-1949 + Prussia + Russian Empire , and it colours in the entirely of Poland using the modern borders.

I have built a chrome extension that can generate numista maps for coins or banknotes between 1830 and today.

More or less every single issuer numista has a coin or banknote for 1830-today can be represented on the map, including the notgeld issuers down to the province/state/department level !

If you would be interested in testing the product and providing feedback you need to

1.Sign up for a numista API key, the extension uses your API key to get your coin/banknote collection

https://en.numista.com/api/index.php

2. Join my google group

https://groups.google.com/g/testing-numista-extension-map

3. Add the extension to your google chrome (only those in the google group can see and download the extention)

4.Have fun testing it out and feel free to provide feedback here or to my email , granchrobert@gmail.com

Example of the interface which allows you to choose minimum and maximum years for your coins
A zoom in of my collection of banknotes issued between 1915-1925, Notgeld has lead to some areas of Germany and Austria having a variety of colours.

It looks great !

Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno

Super nice! Where did you find data for historical maps? You built database yourself manually?

Compendium

The data for historical maps relied on a variety of youtube videos that showed borders changing ever year.

and many others

Yes, I built the database myself. It is made up of about 3,000 shapes to represent all the needed borders, each shape has a timeline of what issuers would have owned it at each year 1830-today

Reminds me of old discussions:
