Could you please add to the list the designer:

Leslie Lindsay - a prominent British sculptor-medalist. He worked for Pobjoy Mint and created the multiple coins for Isle of Man

Unfortunatelly, I cannot find any more info about - the phrase above (first part) is coming from NY Times article from 1985 (about the gold Angel coin): https://www.nytimes.com/1985/02/10/arts/numismatics-a-new-competitor-for-the-krugerrand.html

When I searched be designer, Numista filtered 157 coins designed/engraved by Leslie Lindsay (151 from IOM, 5 from Gibraltar and 1 from Jersey) and I'm sure will be more because still not all pages are filled with this info.

In the Mackay catalogue (Isle of Man coins and tokens; 1979) there is a picture of Leslie Lindsay at work. Here is a photo:

Could you please crop a little (I take photo to show with desription) and add it to the artist page? Books was published by Pobjoy Mint (©Pobjoy Mint)  which granted the permission to use their pictures.

That is a picture of my father. Nice to see. Sadly he passed away two years ago but had a good life retiring in France.

I remember going to the Pobjoy mint in the 70s as a child and being amazed by the key code entry which is commonplace now. My father also told me (not sure if true) that you weren't allowed to wear Brycream or grease in your hair as you may pick up gold in the grease but maybe he was joking! The owner Derek Pobjoy was very friendly, I was more interested in his car than the coins as a young chap though.

My father also worked for the Birmingham mint at times but I'm not sure what coins he did for them. I do remember the Isle of Man works. He used to carve the coins in large scale in reverse in plaster then make moulds out of araldyte? They would then be converted down to scale.

Thanks for posting the picture.

Hi All,

Could this token possibly have been designed by Leslie? I'm not having much luck researching it online.

TIA Gavin

Hi Gavin

Sorry for my delay in replying.

The LIon does look like my father's style however I am no expert.

What I do know is that he worked probably exlusively for Pobjoy mint up to late 1975 and then shared comissions with a company in Birmingham for a few years before returning to Pobjoys.

Look into those dates, hope this is helpful.

My sister is better than me on this bit Im not sure how open she is to contact.

Let me know, but apogies, I reply sporadically

Kind regards

Jason
