Hi,

Recently purchased an Australia £5 note (R50) P#35a (link) with Serial number  prefix “TD/00 ”. The note is in AUNC condition, well preserved with no creases, stains, clean sharp edges and corners.

Searches on the web return results ranging from AUD500 - AUD750.

Any help with the following two queries would be appreciated:

(1) Does the prefix “TD/00” have any significance/bearing on the price?

(2) Any info on other known price ranges would be helpful.

Thanks.

TA/00 is the first prefix (s. Coombs/Wlison) ND1954. I believe the value for this note should be worth more.

Would there be a difference in price between TD/00 and TA/00?

Firstly, thanks for replying.

I think you've misread the prefix, its TD/00 not TA/00

My apology. Prefix TA/00 printed or issued by Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). Yours is the reprint by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). According to the old catalogue I have, there is no mention of this first prefix for the RBA print. However, the last prefix is TD/09.

Okay…so the way I understand it is like this: TD/00 is the first prefix of the change from “Commonwealth bank” to “Reserve bank”, with TD/09 being the last prefix?

If so, that's geat news.

1954 - CBA - TA/00 first prefix

1961 - RBA - TD/09 last prefix

Roger that, now I understand exactly where I stand 🤣 , somewhere in between.

Coinsandaustralia puts the first prefix of P-35 at TB 41 so TC 00 (& TD 00 for that matter) do not normally qualify as the first prefix of the RBA 5 Pound note. Some collectors may wish to pay a premium (like some think sequential notes are worth a premium) since it is the start of each prefix.  They were full prefixes though, so paying a premium for a full run does not really makes sense.  The first (TA 00) prefix & last (design change-over TB 41) prefix from the Commonwealth series (P-31) are the ones that command the highest premiums.

Thanks everyone for your time and responses, I've certainly learnt a lot .  Coming back to the original intent of this post, is anyone able to give me a more accurate range of what this note is worth? This note is in UNC condition - crisp white paper, sharp corners, straight sharp edges all round, no folds of any kind, no staining of any kind.
