America left the British Empire upon declaring independence on 4 July 1776.

The individual colonies became fully independent states as a result.

British rule in the US ended in 1783, when the fighting formally ended with the Treaty of Paris.

While America declared independence in 1776, British rule did not end until 1783. “In the 1783 Treaty of Paris, Britain ceded all of its North American territory south of the Great Lakes” (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_colonization_of_the_Americas#:~:text=Many%20of%20the%20North%20American,War%2C%20which%20ended%20in%201783.).

It should be changed to 1783 instead.

America ceased with the Declaration of Independence being signed in 1776, establishing the USA. Britain did not formally give up control or claim to the territory of the US until the 1783 Treaty of Paris. The fighting and conflict virtually ended after Yorktown, but it was not formalised until 1783.
