Hello everyone,

I noticed that the 2 złoty coin from the Free City if Cracow, minted in 1835 is listed as a pattern.

N#138664

But according to another catalogue, it's actually just a fantasy issue.

https://coinstrail.com/pl/catalog/poland/free-cracow/pattern-2-zlote/5e8db879f9220939e4c1876b

The newest coin catalogue (Fischer 2024) doesn't mention this coin either.

Gumowski has this as #2579, and referenced to the normal type but without an obverse legend.

Not sure if it's listed in Kopicki.

The Karolkiewicz specimen got $900 and the 2013 WCN sale got 1300 PLN, so somebody thinks it is collectible.

At a minimum we could add a comment.  But if there is some recent scholarship with convincing evidence it is a fantasy piece, we could move it to exonumia.

@geraltttt82  what do you think??

According to this informations:

Podawane w niektórych opracowaniach monety, rzekomo próbnego bicia[2]:

  • 3 grosze miedziane oraz
  • 2 złote srebrne (z napisem: WOLNY KRAY KRAKOWA)[5]

w rzeczywistości zostały w latach osiemdziesiątych XX w. zidentyfikowane jako fantazyjne wyroby kolekcjonerskie z drugiej połowy XIX w[6][7].

Coins given in some studies, allegedly of trial minting[2]:

3 grosze miedziane and
2 złote srebrne (with the inscription: FREE LAND OF KRAKOWA)[5]

in fact, they were identified in the 1980s as fancy collectibles from the second half of the 19th century[6][7].

Unfortunately, I do not have access to these two articles, but Profesor Borys Paszkiewicz is an outstanding numismatist with enormous scientific achievements.

In my opinion - exonumia

Thank you both!

I will submit the change request to move it to Exonumia, and attach a reference to this thread.
