What is special about these UAE 10 dirham banknotes ?

I am puzzled ! I recently sold these two banknotes for much more than I expected. Another 10 dirham made what I expected. All three looked similar apart from the arabic numerals/note number. Could anyone please tell me what was different about one of the  pair or both of them to make them so much in demand ? I have tried to find the answer on google but to no avail. Both were well used. Many thanks.

I do not have this note in my collection and I do not believe there is anything special about your notes, apart from that these are from the first UAE series and is a very beautifully designed note (reverse side). First series of banknotes are always a favourite among collectors, me included, but I can't say why someone would pay you more than what you have expected. There is no shortage in supply for this note in such conditions, albeit various pricing. You have not mentioned the amount you have sold for, so it's hard to tell if your notes were sold well above the expected value.

The important thing is that you are happy with the sale.

The other alternative is to ask the buyer why? The downside is that if there was anything special about these notes, then you will be kicking yourself over this weekend.

I cannot read Arabic, and therefore I cannot tell if one of the notes is first or last or a replacement prefix. I can see one note has the serial number ending with 5555, but then this is either solid or half solid or any special.

Remember that there are always weird people that would buy at whatever it costs, me included

This is just my opinion. As usual, I could be wrong on this.

Hi and thanks for the thoughtful reply.

I believe that it was now just one of those days when everything went right for the seller. I had done some research before listing so I had an idea of what I was selling and an idea of value for a pair of used banknotes. There was ‘something’ about them as I had three very quick offers for a private sale but I have always been happy to accept whatever the final bid is. It was just a case where more than one person wanted them and I was more than happy with the final result. Perhaps it was something personal to the buyer, an issue number they wanted or something else.

I was just wanting to find out if I had missed something obvious, a rare variety, but I don't think that was the case.

Just a good day !

Cheers

+1

I believe @ahkai sums it up. First series from an oil-rich nation 😀.  Sometimes condition doesn't factor in as much (as one would expect) since some of the “1 country from every nation” & other types of collectors don't really care about a note's grade/etc when they're filling in gaps.  Then, it was likely “a good day to list that particular note” & you put it up in true auction style (I'm assuming from your question) which is hardly done these days. Most buyer's like to see what the market will bear (rather than BIN at a perceived high price).
