Guys I heard that an coin the 20 cent from Chinese province of Kwangtung is sometimes made out of 40 to 30 percent silver??? Is this true? I have heard about people in china and people from china town selling coins and they say some have low silver content (billon) so I'm curious if this is true…it says 50 percent silver but I'm actually curious…..

Hello, my friend, I have two of these coins from the Canton Province, one from the year 8 and another from the year 13. A few months ago I examined them with a spectrometer and the results were:

The one from the year 8 showed a fineness of 0.250, a vellón.
The one from the year 13 showed a fineness of 0.660

So I think that the fineness of these pieces has a huge margin concerning their fineness.

Wasn't the Chinese government incredibly decentralized during this period? It'd make a lot of sense for the coins to not have uniform stuff.

Some off them will look pink/ silver after being polished, it makes sense, or they are just saving money…
