4 sequential $5 Super Radar

These fancy serial number 2003A 5 dollar notes referred to as a trinary notes? Got them from coin show in FL. 10 years ago and the dealer kept them in the O.G.P. US MINT portfolio album. I had them in my safe and forgot they were in my collection. All four are in mint condition, is it worth getting them graded individually or as a set? I collect coins and not sure about grading currency and value. thnx

Nice notes and very eye-catching with those serial numbers too. I would not call these as radar notes. Somehow, someone or the dealer withheld the most important note - # 00055000. I personally believe that whether to grade these notes or not is entirely up to you. I do not grade my notes, so I can be a bit biased here. If you have rare notes, then perhaps you should.

Anyway, nice notes you got there.

Good luck

I agree with @ahkai : nice to look at but nothing special (other than a lot of zeros- which some collectors go for). The radar (00055000) is the keynote missing.

Value is purely subjective: they're big head $5.00 from Richmond (FW BEP) with 192,000,000 printed. A New York "FB" or Chicago “FG” star note with 640,000 would have been a tough note from the Series 2003 A).  Great that they're UNC.  I might put them in proper PVC-free mylar currency sleeves since I've heard some collectors complain about the “O.G.P. US MINT portfolio album” but I wouldn't submit them to a Third Party grader.

Also: “sequential #” are how banknotes are released but your notes are not sequential.  Contrary to what a lot of coin collectors & eBay sellers will tout, sequential # notes don't add value to your set (unless they're from a really old or Large Size series).

The term “mint” is usually an expression for where coins are produced but UNC (uncirculated) means the notes are crisp/fresh as the day they were printed. Banknote collectors refer to US currency originating from the Bureau of Engraving & Printing (BEP).  I found this US CURRENCY Ed program site a helpful source for BEP notes. Hope that helps!

Yup, I searched for that ‘55’ series online and found that another similar note with a PMG grade (66EPQ) is listed on Da'bay for a  thirty five thousand pennies.  Here's the listing.  Thanks, I've placed them in a new PVC-free mylar currency sleeve holder. I never thought to search for that missing '55', good to see some value in collecting this kind of currency. Appreciate all the sagely advice in this forum.
