I’m wondering if that’s a weak strike specimen or is this how the unc version also would look like
It's from 1800, so I doubt they were super high-definition to begin with. Or it could be a weak specimen. But more than likely, it's been worn from over 200 years of circulation and switching hands.
Well worn castle that is from 1800 - I'd say it's either Spanish /some Spanish colony or from the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg ( I remember they had a castle on their coins .
Castle was just someone's guess, never confirmed. Could be a worn anything. Nothing in the Numista catalog from 1800 with castle in the description looks like that.
Find a modern European coin with a Christmas / Lord of the Rings character on it. You need to submit the micrograph for this one.
From what I know, that isn't really how this game works. You need to provide a micrograph, and then everyone else tries to guss what the coin is. I too was not able to find anything that fulfilled every condition, but it could be because I just didn't look hard enough.

This coin is well known and a photo would give it away immediately. Admittedly, a bit of a twist on the original idea, but I couldn't resist this opportunity for a bit of lateral thinking. I just hope that the solution is appreciated as much as the challenge (but I'll get ready for the complaints).
Happy with just a description or link to the correct coin if a micrograph is too difficult. 😁
I took this picture from PCGS website because this coin (or rather a set) is not in my possession yet. The seller reserved it for me, and I will get it this September when I travel to the country he is located. So I hope it counts:)
Picked this one as an example, simply by virtue of being the oldest silver coin with floral border surround.
EDIT: It seems I might have unintentionally picked the exact coin. So far as I can tell, no other coin with the floral border has that tip of the “1” as photographed just ever so slightly on the extreme right.

Correct! And yes, I deliberately left a small part of “1” so the denomination can be identified. Great job!
An interesting observation is that 1962 proof set seems to be relatively common considering its mintage of only 650 pieces! Other sets having similar mintage tend to be extremely rare, barely or never popping up, while sales of this set are relatively common

Time for a clue, methinks…
Current, circulation, European coin - Look at the lettering not the pictures.

No guesses so far, apart from the comments above. Time for a micrograph (which I'm sure will give this coin away immediately)…
Previous winner hasn't posted a new coin in a long time, so I decided to continue.

This one is easy - this is the crown of Saint Stephen I of Hungary .It appears on their Coat Of Arms and most of their coins . That being said , which Hungarian coin it is is harder to decipher. I personally am going with this one

Cross seem to be different? But I can't find a better one.
It looks to me that the coin is indeed 2 Filler KM# 518.
The shape of the cross seems to depend on the year. Coins minted in 1940-1941 have a thin cross, while coins minted in 1942 appear to have a cross similar to the one in the image.

yep, this is Italian 5 euro cents, with “ELF” being the abbreviation of the engraver name - Ettore Lorenzo Frapiccini.
The formulation of the riddle - “coin with a Christmas / Lord of the Rings character on it” - does not seem strictly correct as there is no actual character on the coin….

Correct !!!
Acknowledge the comment, but just consider: ‘’Here's an an Obscure one'' ‘’… a photo would give it away immediately.'' ‘’…opportunity for a bit of lateral thinking.'' ‘’Look at the lettering not he pictures''. I think there have been enough hints to make comments like ‘’no actual character'' a bit null and void.

So the letters ELF are supposed to be both a Christmas character and a Lord of the Rings character that are on the coin? Sounds like an interesting game. Perhaps consider starting a different post with different rules for it?

Admittedly, I somewhat bent the initial idea a bit by starting with the clue, but I can't see anything previously on this being a game that excludes micrographs with only text.

From the OP's original post, “So here's the game. here's a micrograph I just took, see if you can identify it. If you guess right, its your turn to post a challenging photo.”
So…micrograph picture → guess → correct → your turn. At the very least, wait for your turn by guessing correctly. At that point, if you want to switch to clue → micrograph feel free. Or, as I said, start a new post with different rules for the game and I definitely play.
