I have a 500 rupees note whose serial number is visible from the back, but in yellow ink.

One is visible over the right side of the RED FORT

and the other is visible over the HINDI translation of RESERVE BANK OF INDIA

It was not supposed to be there.

Is this a valuable error?

Is it a possible collector's item

Your note is not an error. It was laid on top of the previous sheet before the ink of the serial number was dry and there was some transfer. It does not have extra collector value as these types of notes are quite common and many collectors view them as damaged notes. Keep it if it’s interesting to you, otherwise spend it.

@blue-m, I do not believe it was wet ink transfer. If it was wet ink transfer, then the colour on the back should be black as well. I believe it was due to some chemicals reaction, environment or the way the note was stored. I agree that it has no extra value for this note, just my opinion.

I didn‘t write it was an ink transfer. I said there was some transfer. If it was a chemical reaction, it probably was due to something in the ink of the serial number. Technically, ink transfer. Regardless the transfer has something to do with the serial number, that much is obvious.
