‘L&P’ ('Lemon & Paeroa') is a popular soft drink in New Zealand, but I don't think that this token relates to it. The fonts look wrong, and I've never seen a vending machine in this country that takes tokens. That doesn't mean that they have never existed. That applies to Frenchlover's token only. You don't drink pop ‘for amusement’. One to rule out.
@FrenchloverWe are well over The LoTRs here, but a nice gag. 😊 L&P is quite nice, but not my drink. I can't think of anything to compare it to. Paeroa is the name of the town where they make it, and it is famous for its giant bottle of L&P. Makes a nice tourist stop. Like the town with the giant gumboot, and the town with the giant apple, where I lost my wallet… And the town with the giant sheep. The list goes on…
My Mum lived in Dunedin as a child, and lived one street over from Baldwin Street, which is the street this house is on; the steepest street in the World! I have personally walked up it and can confirm that it is indeed very steep. I did this when I was younger and fitter than I am now, not that I'm old (almost fifty), and was absolutely knackered. Why you would live there, I don't know. When my Mum was a kid, one of her playmates decided to drive a home-made go-kart down it, and was killed. To end on a light note, people meet yearly at the top of Baldwin Street to roll ‘Jaffas’ down it. ‘Jaffas’ are a round, reddish-orange coloured sweet with a hard shell and a chocolate centre, and are quite delicious. There are prizes for whose Jaffa gets first, second, and third, and people have a fun day out.
There you go, Baldwin Street! 😊
Cheers, AY (which is not my real name, seeing as I'm sharing).
Hi! That's cool! I've never seen it. They must have coloured them for the race, unless you can get them in colours now. It's been a long time since I ate sweets of any sort. Thanks, French/NZlover.
