Dear Collectors!

In 2013 Kazakhstan issued a set of miniature coins. With one standard coin: N#48794

I have noticed that these coins have not yet been added to the catalog, so I wanted to add them. However, I am not sure what category they fall under. They are miniatures (thus have smaller diameter and weight) and according to the set are not legal tender. I was thinking they should be considered as “Collector coins”. But maybe they better fit the definition of some kind of exonumia. So I wanted to ask for the opinion of other collectors to reach the consensus opinion.

Thank you for your answers!

Exonumia of course.

One problem, that 50 Tenge in the middle is not a miniature coin. So as set it should be in exonumia but that 50 Tenge coin is a real coin so that one shouldn't be in exonumia.

I have reasonable question “Why are they exonumia?”

The best fitting description, in my opinion is “Collector coin”, because the definition is:

Coins issued by a government with collection or investment purpose. They were not intended for circulation. The coins are denominated in a currency which doesn’t have circulating coins or banknotes.

The only problem with such definition is that tenge has circulating coins and banknotes. But these can be considered as miniatures (which they are) and thus a separate currency.

The only category of tokens that could apply here is “Coin replicas” or if it is possible to choose a general “Commemorative medals”

Definitions:

Coin replicas:  Replica of coins produced for illustration purpose (not counterfeit)

Not sure whether it really fits here, since they aren't replicas. Not even trying to be such, thus different parameters

Commemorative medals: Medal commemorating or celebrating something or somebody

Text on the set only says that the set was made to commemorate 20 years of tenge. But it does not tell us, that the miniatures were nade to commemorate it. Thus I am sceptical it could be the right category.

Maybe there are some other categories I don't kniw about?

Coin replicas. Size doesn't matter.

Okay, I think that is a reasonable explanation. I will add the coins then

+1

We already have similar miniatures issued by the mint and they are for now all in the replica section: Netherlands (1999-2002, both gulden and euro), Poland (2008 and 2009), Portugal ('70 and '80)
Coin replicas – Numista

And now we also have the Kazach ones, thanks.

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

FYI

The miniature replicas have been added (thanks!):

2013 Miniature Set – Numista

In the set there is no standard coin, the 50 Tenge is just printed on the package.
