Good day!
I was planning to purchase an ancient coin as a gift to a friend, and so I saw this being sold online on Facebook. The seller seems reputable enough, but I still have doubts, especially since I'm not really well-versed on the subject of ancient coins. I also understand the risk of purchasing old coins like this online.
The seller claims the coin above is a Constantine I Æ Follis, minted in Thessalonica from 326 to 328 AD. The coin's identification leads me to the Numista page for this coin [N#42918] but it seems the coin being sold has certain differences with Numista's photo (e.g. size of the portrait, the text). I've seen coins more similar online (ex: https://www.ma-shops.co.uk/gin/item.php?id=7567&srsltid=AfmBOoq3gGZCGfGm3g8olk0WBXsXP_cqrunxa8Xwe7ZexwhvXtgXF5Cf) but there are still some differences, and the period of minting is different (though not that far off). I'm not sure if this could just be attributed to the crudeness of the minting process.
Would like to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you very much!
