I have seen on Latin American colonial coins it is usual to add mint letters and assayer's initial(s) on the Mint letter box. Same thing happens with Spanish coins of the same time.

See this example of coin N#41652

where “PTS” are the mint letters for Potosí (circled in red), and “PP” or “PJ” are the initials of assayers (circled on black). Assayer was not the engraver nor the designer of coin; they were the people in charge to control and certify the fineness and weight of the coins produced.

As the Guidelines “Search and select the different marks used on the coin. If necessary, you can request the addition of missing marks in the database.” I think assayer's initials should be placed on “Other marks” box, but seems it must be enabled first, and maybe have picture of the initials; but as they usually are just letters, may be picture is not needed.

Please let me know if the adding of them should be requested; in such case I have an excel sheet with most of the initials by mints, with names and dates of assayers.

Thanks in advance.

Some months ago I requested (and was done) add the marks of officials (assayers and weight master) of the Royal Mint of Spain from 1869. https://en.numista.com/forum/topic156292.html The previous years are pending to search.

As you say, images are not needed. Only mark (letter), years, name of official, and rol in the mint.

For example, you can see

Great to know. I will try to use in my countries.

But now, there is a new problem; the mint letters do not appear y my listings. Here is what I got:

Does anybody know how I can fix this? or is a site problem?

I have seen those small boxes before, with two rows of letters/numbers but

can not remember what the technical name is. My screen does not even show that

I get a small box with a cross in

Also no ‘zebra’ striping blue/white

Also the DEM are vertical

Something to do with computer settings or updates. Hopefully someone knows …

Of the 60 boxes on the first few lines I only get 26 displayed, and uncoloured.

It could be a problem of the fonts installed in your system.

Muchas gracias!

Tried the solutions suggested, but did not correct the problem. Maybe my OS is old.
