Hi all,

I have found some new information about American banknotes being printed at two different locations in the United States by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. I feel like it would be more helpful to the catalogue if the city names for this printer is added when there are different factories where the banknotes are printed (take De la Rue for example, they have locations in different cities UK, Kenya, Malta, Sri Lanka, etc. and it is all listed on the catalogue even though they are the same company).

According to the multiple sources including the official website, the current series of American banknotes are printed in two cities in the United States by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing: Fort Worth and Washington. https://www.bep.gov/currency/history https://www.bep.gov/currency/how-money-is-made https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bureau_of_Engraving_and_Printing https://www.uscurrency.gov/denominations/bank-note-identifiers

Therefore I feel like it would be helpful to have two separate printer listings to represent each of the locations in different cities as:

“Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Washington, United States” and “Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Fort Worth, United States”

Thanks,

Kiet

Hello!

I'm going to ask the referee for the North American banknotes @titus17 for their opinion on this request.

Is it worthwhile to detail this printing house in its branches in this way?

Thanks for the mention@vladthiengo.

I believe this topic addresses Numista's list of banknote printing companies and their mentions on individual pages.

The U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing's Fort Worth printer operates under the same agency as their D.C. facility. The former does not have a name of its own, although it is also known as the BEP's “Western Currency Facility”.

De La Rue plc formerly had multiple facilities in the U.K. (Gateshead, Loughton and Bathford), while their Kenyan and Sri Lankan printers were operated by its subsidiaries - De La Rue Kenya EPZ Ltd and De La Rue Lanka Currency & Security Print (pvt) Ltd. Each were considered to be separate legal entities with different levels of ownership. (Note that TDLR and its subsidiaries have recently been taken over by Atlas Holdings LLC). Giesecke+Devrient GmbH currently has facilities in both Germany and Malaysia but they are not separately listed on Numista's list either.

Bottom line - I don't think there should be separate listings for two printing facilities operated by the same entity, especially if they are in the same country.

Thanks for replying, Titus!

I tend to agree with you in this case. If both printing houses operate in the same location and print the same banknotes, it seems ineffective to separate them into two distinct printing houses.

Vladimir
