Hi

In case of ZAMAK alloy, this alloy is made with heating up the ingredients first, then comes the injection moulding and after this the cooling stage, where token/coin solidifies. Here is one piece N#45809, that is made by milling - not happening since Zamak piece can be formed only in hot liquid state. In cold state it would just break.

Maybe a stuff for Numista robot, which can automatically correct all entries for ZAMAK.

Best regards

So everything to "cast" maybe also change it to Aluminiumzink (Zamak)? Some have additive magnesium and/or copper but not all but all are an ZnAl alloy.

Hello,

I'm a bit confused by this request. We currently have 985 items made of Zamac in the catalogue: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?m=27

Some of them are clearly milled (i.e. the design was impressed with a machine that applies pression on dies, for example N#296675, which has a proof finish.

The composition zamac was added to the page following information received from the Fonderie Saint Luc (https://en.numista.com/forum/topic150024.html)

For others like N#149228, which has a thick design and rough surface, I trust it was made by casting or injection molding.

Would you have some sources that support that all Zamac coins, tokens and medals are made by injection moulding and not milled?

Shall we correct the composition of some items currently specified as zamac?

Hi

At the times of old testament, when I was attending the technical school, Zamak as a zinc-aluminum based alloy was basically superb material for casting, not for cold forming since in forming it in cold state it is prone to cracks or fractures. Maybe today changed something, some new high-tech or new types of alloys I am not aware of.

At the same time, keep in mind, that some metals cannot be used in same manner as Zamak or vice versa. Hence the design on and of the coin as it is made very much depends on material used (and the affordability).

Best regards
