I have had one of these coins for a while, but had not really closely examined it until recently:
This coin has several variations, some of which are mentioned on the Numista web page for the coin, and some of which are not.
Here are some additional variations I noticed after looking at the pictures of the coin on the webpage:
1. Sometimes, there is a dot directly beneath the flag on the obverse
2. Sometimes, there are seven small dots within the writing immediately to the right of the flag within the central circle on the obverse.
One additional variation I noticed on my coin (but could not find in any of the pictures on the webpage or on the internet) is the presence of an 8-pointed star immediately after the 1893 date on the reverse. From viewing internet photos of this coin, usually (but not always) there is a dot or period after the 1893 date. I did not see any photos on the internet of the reverse of this coin with an 8-pointed star after the 3 in the 1893 date. Not sure what to make of this.
The details of my coin are:
Weight = 6.823 grams
Diameter = 25.76 mm
Medal alignment
Variations: “Ball and spire” type of flagpole tip; no dot under the flag; seven small dots in the writing to the right of the flag within the central circle on the obverse, and an 8-pointed star after the “3” in the “1893” date on the reverse. The coin definitely circulated and I estimate its condition to be F/F+.
One other thing I noticed about the Numista webpage for this coin:
I like to search for the applicable Numista webpage for my coins by selecting the issuing state and then searching under the date of the coin. This tends to be the fastest way to find the correct webpage if you do not know any of the catalog numbers (or if you suspect a given catalog number is incorrect).
If you search using “Jaora, Princely State of” and “1893”, the catalog brings up the 31949 1 paisa coin, a similar looking 1 paisa pattern coin, and a two paisa coin (N-43701). However, if you type in either “1310” (the AH date on the 1893 1 paisa coin) or “1950” (the VS date on the 1893 1 paisa coin) as dates under “Jaora” for the catalog search, the catalog only returns the 2 paisa coin (N-43701), even though those dates are legitimate/valid dates for the 1893 1 paisa coin (N-31949).
Interestingly, if you search “Jaora" and the dates AH 1311 or VS 1951, the catalog brings up the N-31949 1 paisa coin (as it should).
This appears to be a search engine “bug” for just the 1 paisa coin and only for the AH 1310/VS 1950 dates.
