Hi all, recently I have discovered that there are many items listed under both business tokens and advertising medals that serve the same purpose: they can be redeemed as part of a promotion. They advertise the product or business, but have trade value, but are not pieces in which they can be used to purchase merchandise, but rather to be redeemed as part of a promotion. In some cases they are not for a business but for a product. There are more than enough that I think deserve their own category.

Some examples:

N#394558

N#432022

N#436593

Hi, I agree they deserve their own category.

Our current definition for Tokens > Trade tokens > Business tokens is:
“Tokens that can be used for purchases at a designated business for some goods. The value can be expressed as a number of goods, a monetary value or a discount.”

I suggest we remove this last part in bold and create a separate sub-category of Tokens > Trade tokens with the definition:

“Token entitling the holder to a discount or other promotional benefit at a given store or for a given product.”

I just have concern about the name “Promotional tokens”, which could be understood with different meanings. What about the name “Discount tokens”?

I hope we will not include all those 100s of millions of coupons I see those bulk buyers in American shows use.

I save between $300 and $500 every month

Same things just in paper.

Discount tokens or coupon tokens. I sometimes hear them called store card tokens, but those also can refer to merchant tokens

I created the category Tokens > Trade tokens > Discount tokens.

I already moved the 4 tokens of the first post. It would be great if you can find the others and move them.

Another option… Could it be a subtype?

  • Business tokens
Tokens that can be used for purchases at a designated business for some goods. The value can be expressed as a number of goods, a monetary value or a discount.
    • Milk tokens
    • Beer tokens
    • Bread tokens
    • Restaurant, bar, cafe and hotel tokens
    • Pharmacy tokens
    • Food stamp tokens
Tokens issued by merchants, who give them as change to customers paying with food stamps, usually because giving change in cash was not allowed.
    • Discount tokens
Tokens entitling the holder to a discount or other promotional benefit at a given store or for a given product.

I removed “or a discount” from the definition of Business tokens.

I prefer not making Discount tokens a subtype of Business tokens, as it would create ambiguity. For example, about where would we categorize a discount token from a hotel.
