20 Cents Kwangtung Province

Pubblicazioni di 3 • visto 79 volte

Hello everyone,

During my holiday in Taiwan, I enjoyed browsing around small shops in the hope of discovering something interesting.
I found two coin collections that I would like to have checked to see if they are genuine or not.
The collection also includes 15 pieces of 2 Jiao / 20 Cents Kwangtung Province N#22630.
I measured them all and they weigh between 5.09g and 5.29g, with a diameter of 24mm and a thickness of 1.5mm, which corresponds to the coin specifications.
How can I conclusively verify whether they are genuine? What do you think?

Thanks you very mutch

freundliche Grüsse

Design details are similar even though the edge is more crenellated than beaded on obverse. Due to the huge mintage on year-8, several dies were used.

Density of AG50% is 9.7 and Cu.Ni is 8.9 so very close, but a Cu.Ni. coin would weight : 4.9g, significantly less than your coin. In order to get the same weight as the genuine silver coin, the Cu.Ni. coin would have a thickness of 1.63 mm instead of 1.5 mm.

You might make a precise density test.
