The size does not matter - the Pence value is behind the head …
VI = 6
XII =12
You mentioned a 6 Shilling coin; never heard of one of those, only a 1 Shilling [12 Pence].
Then. It’s 6 shillings or 6 pence?
what is the roughly value of this coin?
Thank you
Surely a mistake on the page - should be 6 Pence -
with similar diameters and 12 times the face value.
English versions are all 26mm as that link given shows for example.
Although …
Maybe someone else might want to step in …
:)
My question would be … that in this Scotland search
on that fourth page is, at random, a 20 Pence coin
with XX = 20 behind the head - which to me whichever
Roman numerals are there refers to Pence - hence a
coin with VI would mean 6 Pence?!! 😵💫
Lastly - if in 1605 someone living in the north of England had
a newly-minted 26mm silver coin, worth 6 Pence in where he lives,
he then goes across the border then gives that exact same coin to a
shopkeeper in Scotland it might be mistaken for 6 Shillings …

Better still give it to an innkeeper and get 6 Pence worth (to him) of beer -
and be given 5 Shillings 6 Pence change, before he staggers back across the border!
This is great comparison:)
thank you again for help:)
