Inconsistencies in dating of coins with multiple years on them.

These two Bermuda coins have the same reverse design with 1999-2000 on them

Can a high-ranking Numista official please clarify the rule regarding this situation

Should the date be listed as 2000 like this coin:

N#101584

or ND (2000) like this coin:

N#67611

We are looking at the Date section towards the bottom of the page not the “Year” in the Features section at the top right.

Thanks

When the coin was made in 2000 the last date in the year range is sufficient and should be listed as 2000.
If the coin was made in a year that is not 2000 it should be listed as ND(actual year).

Coins that were made of a longer timespan but with frozen dates should be listed Frozen Date (1st - Last year).

For many coins it is unknowable in what year they were actually made, in the case of countries that add the intended year of issue for example so that is used instead (the majority will fall into 1-2 year range so it is at least decently accurate).

Thanks Idolenz.

So if the date on the coin is clearly the date of the commemorated event and has nothing to do with the date of issue (which is not accurately known) the date would be listed as just ND?

The vast majority of commemorative coins are made for the commemorated event (makes little sense to make them otherwise) so the dates of manufacture/issue should match.

Both coins IMO should be listed as 2000 if they were made and issued around 2000.
