Issue with "Issuing entity" for Hungarian coins

Pubblicazioni di 2 • visto 21 volte

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that in the Numista catalogue, 203 Hungarian coins have "Magyar Pénzverő" (Hungarian Mint) listed as the "Issuing entity," while only 5 coins are attributed to the "Hungarian National Bank (Magyar Nemzeti Bank)".

I believe this is incorrect.

In Hungary, only the Hungarian National Bank has the legal authority to issue currency

e.g., N#34457

The Magyar Pénzverő Zrt. is the company that actually manufactures the Forint coins. Besides legal tender, they also produce medals and tokens e.g., N#94961

What do you think is the best way to handle this?

A) We should never fill in the "Issuing entity" line → delete in 208 cases.

B) The "Issuing entity" for Hungarian Forint coins should always be "Magyar Nemzeti Bank" → modify 203 cases.

C) The "Issuing entity" for Hungarian Forint coins should always be "Magyar Pénzverő" → modify 5 cases.

D) Do nothing.

Why do they even have Issuing Entity? From the Numista guidelines:

It is only when an item bears the name or logo of, for instance, a bank or a company which is at the origin of its issue, that this entity is considered as an issuing entity. Any institution linked to the coin or note but not represented or named on it can be described in comments, but not in the “issuing entity” field.
