Hi

In case the lettering is Cyrillic and there is a date in Arabic numbers, Robot gives a hint to:

The obverse lettering has Latin characters entered. Consider adding "Latin" as an obverse script. Robot looks for literal Latin alphabet characters, sometimes people were entering latin ones instead of similar Greek or Cyrillic characters. In that case, lettering field should be fixed and robot request rejected.

Does this mean, Latin should also be added to this script? Here is the case: N#534799. I believe that in the past the rule was no, at least so I remember.

If Latin needs to be added, I would kindly ask to update https://en.numista.com/help/scripts-obverse-and-reverse-170.html with this case, same way as there are many other cases represented by other data values.

Latin.should not be added

“For instance, Arabic numerals are shared by Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, and other scripts. If one side of a note only shows Arabic numerals and no other characters, select the script that is more common for that particular issuer. For example, Greek for Greek banknotes, Cyrillic for Russian banknotes, etc.”

Sorry, but is a random meal coupon from some private business really in the scope of Numista?

You are missing the question.

Hello,

problem is elsewhere. Robot does NOT request latin for numbers. Problem is that some latin characters were used instead of Cyrillic characters for letters that look almost the same.

Robot request can be rejected and the page should be ammended.

If I understand this correctly. Letter “a” added through my laptop Latin keyboard is not the same as letter “a” added through Numista Cyrillic keyboard, despite these two being the same?

Yes, computers are making a distinction. See whole Cyrillic unicode block: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrillic_(Unicode_block)

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_(Cyrillic) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A

They look exactly the same, but not for computers and while we made some search tweaks to allow searching on Numista using these characters together, they might not be searchable from outside.

I was afraid of this. Well, for those of us who learned also Cyrillic in elementary school, this is funny and awkward. Hence I would kindly propose an upgrade, where in such cases specific letters which seem Cyrillic, but were added with Latin keyboard, would be marked with e.g. yellow highlight color on the page Modification request. This way it would be much easier and quicker to manually change these letters, or just cancel the request if needed be.

That's a great idea. Many times I've edited text (mostly off Numista) where I would like to have differences in character sets highlighted.
