I was looking through some of my German ½ mark coins:

N#2340

and noticed that my 1919-J coin had a strongly doubled “J” mintmark.

This isn't noted in the SCWC or on the Numista webpage for this coin. Some of the date-mintmark combinations for coins in this series have a notation in the “comments” section for their line in the valuation table that “overdate exists”. On my coin, the actual date (on the other side of the coin) looks normal, it is only the mintmark under the eagle that is doubled.

I have never posted a picture before (my computer skills are not very good), but for this I did take a picture with my cell phone camera:

Not bad for a first attempt at posting a photo - right?

This is a really clear example of a double mintmark; I thought everyone would enjoy seeing it.

Not sure if things like this should be added to the valuation table.

I agree! Useful photos on this site are often scarce, if you do your part the cell phone camera can do a great job. The entire coin looks doubled, but the “J” almost looks re-punched, it's so different than the other one. Thanks.

Your image is perfect, could you please send me the full two other sides to complete this documentation, which you then can add to numista yourself! Better just add the images to this message as you did with the macro image.

It's a 1919J.

Thanks, I copied my documentation of the 1917A and as usual didn't do a “clean” job…..

Has anyone measured the distances between the offset details? I only did it roughly but it seems just to be double struck (not a die variant).

you might very well be right.

Sorry for the long delay in replying  - I am still new to taking pictures of coins and posting them.

Here are pictures of the obverse and reverse of the coin with the J/J mintmark:

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Hi,

I just found another, but not exactly the same doubling: https://www.ma-shops.com/franquinet/item.php?id=52581

Here is pcgs coin:

And PCGS didn't notice the doubling or didn't mention it. Maybe they are ALL doubled?
