Script identification + Corrosion repair on this Belgian token [Risolto]

Pubblicazioni di 6 • visto 65 volte

Hello,

I wanted to add this Belgian municipal token to the catalog but can't figure out what script is used on Obverse?

It's minted anno 1986 using Bronze with Patinated finish as material.

  • Value: 100 Kazand
  • Minted: 1986
  • Municipality: Rumbeke - Roeselare
  • Country: Belgium
  • Weight: 13 g
  • Diameter: 35.05 mm
  • Thickness: 2.13 mm

OBVERSE

REVERSE

Lettering on Obverse = S[IGILLUM] SCABINOR ET COMVNITAT IS ROLLARIENSIS

Translation = SEAL OF THE ALDERMEN AND THE COMMUNITY OF ROLLARIENS

Q: What type of script do I need to use in order to make this corresponding to Obv. image legend?

And… I would like to post the same symbols that are on Obv. legend, where do I find these?

So far my research came up blanco so I figured better to ask in here…

Another question I have:

Q: Obverse has some weird, red oxidation on top of the dragon's tale.

What is this and how do I get rid of it?

I tried desolvant (0% Aceton) but this rotten spots are 100% immune!

For now I reapplied Vaseline in order to isolate the corrosion a little bit.

So if someone has any ideas please let me know because it's quite a rare specimen in quite good grade, other then the oxidation that is…

Thanks,

doc

A: Similar lettering as on this coin - as one example

then it is  Script: Latin (uncial)

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Here is the list of letters to the corresponding uncial letters used on Numista

Thanks @ZacUK & @Idolenzfor making me a bit more of a wiser man today!

It looked like the page is succesfully added!

Too bad the symbols available in the drop down menu don't cover all of the symbols on the token obverse.

Or have I just not been looking in the right place?

Like, the 5 points and the double crosses in surrounding legend don't really match 100%.

For now, it's the best I could come up with…

If only there was a button for this thread to be “Partitially Solved”.

I guess I will ask the part about the repair of corrosion in another section…

But I will wait some more to close this one because there might be a solution to make the symbols fully compatible?

Many thanks!!

doc.

If you don't find symols on the drop down, search through Unicode lists there might sometimes be a good approximation. But of course not every little varaiant is and should be available (there are technical boundaries).

I browsed unicode libraries and was hopefull with the braille symbols but didn't find any matches.

Guess scripts have limitations which make sense…

Thnx anyway!
