Hi everyone,
Please add the following coin issue to St. Gallen (City of) in Switzerland:
Pfennig (1407-1500)
The city of St. Gallen stared minting coins probably already in the 14th century. But clear evidence that is supported from several sources is only available from the early 15th century onwards. The city issued several coins in the 15th century (1407-1500) which are currently missing: Stäbler (engl. Stäbler, fr. Stäbler), Angster (engl. Angster, fr. Angster), Etschkreuzer (engl. Etschkreuzer, fr. Etschkreuzer) and Plappart (engl. blaffert, fr. blafard). The main currency was the Pfennig (Angster). 1 Plappart = 6-8 Angster; 1 Etschkreuzer = 7 Stäbler; 1 Angster = 2 Stäbler.
The relative values of the subunits are approximate. Not all coins were minted at the same time and values may have changed through time. Information from some sources may be also be wrong or inaccurate. The source in the Idiotikon does not always say which Etschkreuzer is compared to which Stäbler etc.
Heller may also have been minted. However, such a coin has not yet been found according to the information I have read.
Thanks a lot!
best regards,
icole
