20 reales 1810

Dear community. I would like to have your views on this 20 reales 1810 coin. It looked nice but the weight turned to be 3 grams lighter than expected. Looking closer, the year and the name of the king (Ioseph) are closer to the edge than they should be. However, the reeded edge is there but slightly different compared to similar Spanish coins from the same era. My opinion is that it was mounted as a pendant with part (or all) of the reeded edge removed and afterwards, a similar reeded edge was ‘created’ on a smaller coin. Do you agree? Or is it just a nice repro?

Everything looks genuine to my eye and I see remnants of original edge with no artificial edge altering or added. I do not believe it to be a repo.  Heavy wear and yes, perhaps in a bezel and possibily ground down slightly at one time that could account for the weight discrepency. The devout will even rub a “pendant” like this if jewelry as an expression of faith and could explain the heavy wear on the reverse in the center. I disagree with Harry, to me it has the same type of tone as a chinese copy and three grams low with only that much wear seems very suspicious.

Where did you get it from and if you paid for it, how much did it cost?

Or for a more reliable option take it to a jeweller or coin dealer in your area that has an xrf scanner.

In this case you cant simply determine authenticity by it's toning and appearance as it clearly was cleaned more than once. The details is how I came to my conclusion and absolutely everything is a match except for weight which can be accounted for. Yes, take it to a jeweler for verification of silver content for verification.
