Hi. Does the Hong Kong 50 cents 1975 exist? If yes, it is rare?

Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Yes, and no.

Why do you think it might not exist and could be rare, when you have already the info provided by the right Numista coin link, and you can easily check that on Google? 🤔😏

The problem is, I've been looking for this coin for several years and haven't found it. So I wondered if I'm just having bad luck, or if the 1975 date is a rarer one.

Of course it exists. I've seen few of them before. It is slightly rarer than the 1972 and 1973, but more common than 1974

OP asked a reasonable question. Numista link shows 1975 mintage of 8 million versus, for example, 1972 mintage of 30 million, a ratio of about 1:4. Yet, among coins available for swap here on Numista, I see one from 1975, versus 63 from 1972, a ratio of 1:63. Why the outsized difference between mintage and availability? Maybe the coins were minted but melted or hoarded etc. Or maybe reported mintage is wrong. I dont know, but it's a fair question. I hope someone can answer.

Found these on the internet:

1974:

1975:

Here is an example of 1975:

You are absolutely right. Well spotted!

I checked the prices on Taobao. 1975 doesn't seem to be very rare.

Prices seems to be:

1972, 1973 - 3.5 yuan (0.45 eur)

1974 - 30 yuan (3.8 eur)

1975 - 10 yuan (1.25 eur)

for heavily circulated pieces (VF).

And for XF-AU it seems to be:

1972-1973 - 10 yuan (1.25 eur)

1974 - 50 yuan (6.3 eur)

1975 - 25 yuan (3.15 eur)

These prices are valid in Hong Kong/China, but they represent the comparative rarity
