Hello,

I would like to request the creation of a new “Other mark” / privy mark entry for “Y2K”.

The mark appears on several late-1990s / Millennium bullion coin issues as a third-party applied privy mark. It is not limited to a single coin type.

A submitted example already exists in the Numista catalog:

“5 Dollars - Elisabeth II 3rd portrait; Y2K privy marked SML bullion coinage”

The same Y2K mark is also known from additional bullion issues (overall six known coin types according to collector references).

The mark currently cannot be selected in the “Other marks” field during catalog submissions.

Thank you very much.

For this coin? N#579598 Third party privy?  Isn't it just post mint damage of this coin? N#40500 It really shouldn't even be in the Numista catalog.

Thank you for your feedback.

Yes, the Y2K mark appears to be a third-party applied privy/countermark rather than an official Royal Canadian Mint issue.

However, similar privately distributed Millennium/Y2K bullion variants already exist in the Numista catalog, including other privy-marked SML bullion coins.

This specimen was submitted because:
- multiple related Y2K bullion types are known,
- the variant appears to have an identifiable collector market,
- and comparable third-party privy bullion issues are already cataloged on Numista.

If necessary, I would also support moving the item into a more appropriate classification/category if Numista considers “third-party bullion variants” preferable to standard coin listings.

Thank you.

“similar privately distributed Millennium/Y2K bullion variants already exist in the Numista catalog”

Such as?

Thank you.

One reason I considered the Y2K piece catalog-relevant is that the same Millennium/Y2K mark appears to have been distributed as part of a broader multi-country bullion collection, including:

- Canada (Silver Maple Leaf)
- England (Britannia)
- United States (American Silver Eagle)
- Australia
- China
- Liberia (N#186028)

The variants were apparently marketed together as a Millennium/Y2K bullion collection with documented presentation packs and reported mintages.

I fully agree these are not official mint-issued coin types, but they appear to be organized collectible bullion variants rather than isolated post-mint damage.

The Liberian coin looks to be an authorized version and not a third party addition. I don't know about the other coins you mentioned but the  United States (American Silver Eagle) with a 3rd party Y2K privy would not be in scope of the Numista catalog, coin or token or medal.  Is it currently in Numista?

Just to clarify — my original request was mainly about creating a selectable “Y2K” mark entry in the “Other marks” field for catalog consistency.

All mentioned pieces are genuine original bullion coins issued by their respective mints (RCM, US Mint, Royal Mint, etc.), later modified with a third-party Y2K privy/countermark as part of a broader Millennium-themed collector/distributor series.

I understand that the catalog eligibility of such third-party bullion variants can certainly be debated separately.

My intention was not necessarily to argue that every Y2K bullion piece should automatically qualify as a standard official Numista coin type.

If considered acceptable within Numista scope, I may eventually document some of the remaining known Y2K bullion variants from the same Millennium-themed collector/distributor series as collector-reference items as well. GN

I understand your intent. However, I am under the opinion that the coin page you created should not be allowed in Numista. Since your request will go to the Catalog administrators their decision will be final.

Post mint damage should not have their own entry nor year line.

So many things wrong with this page…Title, photos, obverse description, reverse description, edge photo. What can I say a nice addition to the catalogue…
