Hi

On this piece N#4866 this reference is added https://en.numista.com/L100105

I would dare to say this is a clear mistake. Is there a way to implement some checks to limit such instances? I presume some data should be added to the reference page which could be used for double checking or some Robot magic, like:

  • period in which coins are described
  • issuers (specific, generally all like KM#)

Page created in 2008, and in 2017 it had the correct  Schön# 14  reference added.

I made a change request now, awaiting referee approval. Thanks

The contributor that request add (or edit) a reference should write the sources (link to an online page or photo of the printed page). I do this when add references as contributor in other countries.

And the referee should ask for sources if they are not mentioned.

I think this is the only way to avoid erroneous references.

This sounds more like a glitch in the system where Schön# 14 was somehow replaced by A# 14 which became Album Islamic #14.

Most likely an input error like hitting A or an error key while having the drop down active and as a ref you don't get a summation of changes like on a change request so stuff like this can happen when you don't catch it immediately.

So a referee approved a change from Schön # 14 to A# 14 without question?

Mostlikely not approved a change request from a user. Like I said if you changed it by accident while wanting to change something entirely different (without knowing it) it could have happened.

Yes… If the referee made the change with the error, this is approved without review.

It happened to me (at least) once too. I've added a Schön number and I was pretty sure I've changed the reference too, but apparently I didn't so it ended up with two different KM numbers in stead of a Schön number and a KM number. Since I was the referee myself nobody else had to approve it. And although I often double check changes I make I didn't notice the mistake. Luckily someone else did (much later) and the mistake could be corrected.

When you do nothing you don't make mistakes.

When you do a lot, you sometimes make a mistake.

My point was that a solution like this https://en.numista.com/forum/topic177300.html#p1342787 wouldn't have kept the mistake on this post from happening, that this mistake was outside the normal CR/validation process.  A mistake like you described is a glitch in the system.

I wouldn't call it a glitch in the system. It was human error, I don't know exactly how it happened (otherwise it wouldn't have happened of course) but I I assume I was the culprit.
