Search when references are listed as a range doesn't work

When references are shown as a range only the first and last reference can be searched successfully.  Searching for those in the middle doesn't work.

All reference numbers are listed individually:

but appear as a range on the coin page:

You can find this coin searching for KM# 49.1 and 49.7 but not 49.2, 49.3, 49.4, 49.5 and 49.6.

You used to be able to find it searching for any of the KM numbers.  It looked like this (from 2023):

Why are the sub references even listed in the main reference slots when they are in the year line references?

I thought they might interfere but it also doesn't work for pages that have only year line references entered (only the shown first and last ones yield hits).

The sub-references were already in the main reference slots before year line references were possible. When year line references were added they were not removed from the main reference slots.

When both reference fields are used the sub references take priority over the date line references and they will not be included.

This affect to the display of the references, but do not to the search (supposedly!).

I do not think this is the reason but… I requested that duplicate references be removed from the page.

It was done, but the bug persists.

Another similar bug, with N#15790. This page has the reference KM 3 in the page, and KM 3.1, KM 3.2 in different lines. The page is found when I search KM 3.1, KM 3, KM 3*, KM 3.*, but KM 3.2 returns nothing.
