Anyone else think the USA just like copying the French?

It isn't really "copying," the French did give us the Statue of Liberty as a gift after all.  While maybe not always the best of relationships the U.S. has usually had a good relationship with France.  I would think of it more as cross pollination.
Yeah wasn't Saint-Gaudens French? (the famous coin engraver who designed the $20 gold flying eagles)

I always thought we (us) copied Canada - they did quarter we did quarter. their dollar gold ares turn gold. I am waiting for a 2 dollar coin
It is, what it is, or is it.
Jadejackal did you know the Statue of Liberty has leg irons on but broken. No-one looks at her legs

 true true.

The statue of liberty was preformed by a rather rare technique for sculpture, called Repoussé and chasing, the same techniques I use.

The French made beautiful Art, but the styles were the same at that point in time, however who wouldn't want to copy "the Sower"?
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
It's not just the French either.

The Penny has the major elements of its design taken from the classical world which is something I personally like.
I thought the US seated Liberty look like French Indochina coins

in fact I got this one in change and thought I got a seated Liberty dime at first.

Yeah, I just found out today that Britannia was based on one of the Roman goddesses. They had some ancient Roman coins with a design remarkably similar to the penny design.
Check this out on my Wiki site Britannia
I was once thinking of making a thread of "coinalikes," mainly inspired by these two, which always ended up in the wrong country bag:

I know they're not really similar, they just used to confuse me.

With just a quick glance, I'm always mixing up turn of the century German and Austrian coins.

And who gave you permission to use my photo? ;(

It's easier to expect similarities between Austria/Germany since they had a bit of an incestuous relationship, but USA is on the other side of the world from France/UK
Excluding the indigenous people's America was made up of Europeans so its art and culture is going to be heavily influenced by these nations.
