Definitely - it could be. But, can you see it? I can't see it.  ;)
Let's Do A Swap To Know Each Other Culture.
Sure. We need a German coin too.
Don't forget the Israeli coin and Armenian coin.
The Kenyan coin. Oh, and the Bhutanese coin. Oh and also the coin from the Seychelles.
What about poor little New Zealand, I'm the most active member on this site, I demand a New Zealand coin....but then I collect Pacific Island coins so I demand one coin from each of the Pacific Islands as well. Oh, but I also collect Zinc coins, there must be at least one zinc coin as well!

It does get a bit silly when we're arguing over the banner.
That was my point...
I know, I was just hammering it home.

We already have random coin in front of page, so I think it is alright as it is, but sure in future numista should need new redesign with load of new functions. so there are more priorities to do- it would be better if we all could put all great ideas in one document- project specification under numisdoc sorted by categories and priority levels. I have been made lot of information systems before, it is shame that all great ideas are messed in forum thread, some of them are duplicated hundred of times and some of them are lost.

Namaste,

I immediately demand that all coins shall be replaced to Hutt River Province coinage for better illustration of the diversity of World Coinage! X-D  :D

If I would be a proud Indian, I would add 10 Indian coins per day to the catalog to demonstrate that we have a wonderful history and coinage!
Now, if you all Indians get united and all of you do it, I salute you, and get another Ganesh statue in my little Hindu shrine in my library, next to the two bottles of Ganges water from Varanasi and the already huge Hanuman statue I got from my friend Yogesh!

Pranam,

I really don't understand why you have added religious views with it. If you think I am thinking like that, then I must shout to add MATA VAISHNO DEVI coins............ Which I am not asking here.

One more thing,

Indian coins have better pictures than lots of other countries coins. Indians are doing good work here.

I also suspect that the hands on the banner belong to a white person, possibly even of European background. Maybe we can at least get some mehndi/henna designs on them?

Site is of French origin and there are plenty of beautiful French coins out there, colonies included. That should be the new banner, if anything. This seems to be a petty requests from an individual who doesn't even take the time to put an Indian coin in his avatar. The sheer numbers of Indian members you speak of, if united and active on the forum/website, can easily show us your beautiful coins. Put Indian coins in your avatars and be active on Numista, that's the secret.

Cita: bideshPranam,

Simply:
1) I just wanted to express my respect for your culture/religion, which I know - by far - better than the average user.
2) I also wanted to express - with irony - that it makes no sense to have every single country's coin pic on the home page, as it would be 400+ coins in a mess, plus a never-ending debate that "my coin shall be larger!"
3) Plus I wanted to highlight that gaining national pride here comes not in the format of enforcing the replacement of the 1 Franc, but rather by perfecting the Indian part of the catalog. I did NOT say you are not doing a good job, I just said that if you want to increase the awareness on Indian coins, then add some hundreds and it will grow!
... all this with a supportive note, that, altough I do not know much about Indian coins, I am here to help you publishing new ones, shall you need advice on general Numista specs or Arabic deciphering.

Do not take it so seriously, I see your points, the only thing I am adding is that this is a collaborative catalog and we will get out of if, as much we put it in!
So, I seriously mean, if you care India's reputation than add more coins, increase the quality of the existing ones, etc... (the rest is just teasing you without any bad intention!) :)

Cita: sujit_kumarSome people show up here just to fight?

First, he's requesting a selfish change to the forum banner, making it sound like an order and without saying PLEASE.

Second, he's basing his request on the membership numbers, contributions and popularity of coins from his background and nationality. Comes across like a racial and political agenda.

Third, to make things worse, he states the following...

Cita: bideshIndian coins have better pictures than lots of other countries coins. Indians are doing good work here.
I disagree with that statement. Coin appearance preferences are a matter of opinion. As for the good work, recent revenge campaign aside, show me what he means ...?

I suggest that he is going about things the wrong way. Numista already has a random coin display on the home page, he has the option to show off his favourite Indian coins in his avatar and his blog background should probably be personalized, to show his national pride and support, if what he is requesting is of real importance to him. There are plenty of options, without picking on the banner.
Cita: sujit_kumarSome people show up here just to fight?

Yes, Sujit, some people are here to fight and compensate only. sad.
I am in total agreement with you and Bidesh, by now.
I also agree that this nonsense fight on words and adjectives and improper usage of English grammar shall end.
My apologies, if my respect to Indian culture was shown in an inapproriate manner.
I shall behave more responsibly, knowing that there are creatures out there, who jump on every possibility to insult people of different cultures.
Regardless of all this, I want to state that I have spent about a net 5 months in your country, and I have learnt to respect and tolerate the culture, the religion, ..  or you name it.

I still do not think the front page shall be replaced, but I do see your views, respect,

Yes, agree, sometimes silence is pure gold, ha ha. :)

Sorry for off-topic, I tried to ignore this useless battle, but it is happening to often, and I can't see any rational reason for that...

I do understand both of you, because I know how different we are and how different we are seeing world as we are from whole world with one main thing what is joining us, but, torontokuba, whatever if someone agree or not, whatever if it is true or not, why do you need this battle anyway, why?
People who are seeing things the same way as you do, will agree anyway without your help to spotting it out, people who are thinking different will never change mind and there is no way they will do after reading this "discussion".  So what is your target to do that? Do you think it is really necessary for you and all of us? Is it really worth to do that?

I don't need it. I look through topics, when I see something I disagree with, I speak up. I don't see a point in responding to topics where everyone agrees on the same thing. Doesn't that seem dull to you? I've stated my point above. What is the point of a forum, pages of +1's and thumbs up?

On another note, here is a question for you muralis and for others.. Is this an appropriate statement to make on Numista about another culture or religion? How did religion, shrines, statues, etc. ever enter this topic? It was about what's on the Numista banner, wasn't it?

Cita: imreh...and I have learnt to respect and tolerate the culture, the religion, ..  or you name it.
tolerate
allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that one does not necessarily like or agree with) without interference : a regime unwilling to tolerate dissent.
• accept or endure (someone or something unpleasant or disliked) with forbearance : how was it that she could tolerate such noise?
• be capable of continued subjection to (a drug, toxin, or environmental condition) without adverse reaction

Isn't that a lovely and gracious thing to say about another culture and religion.  :~ I thought Numista was going to prevent such instigations...
OK, I am giving up, because my English skills is not enough to continue to explain my point of view about this topic in level what I would be able to do in my first language.

I can see things more simple: someone found that fact there there is no visible coin on banner from one of biggest community here in Numista and wanted to know if it is possible to add the coin, as there is some place to do and find out is there is more people who would support this idea. He also spotted few reason why he would like to see coin on banner. That's it, few opinions why "yes" or "not" and the forum master responded very gentle  to this idea and we all clearly have final answer in our minds.

Do not understand me wrong, torontokuba, we both are in the very same boat, just you have some mad skills to put fire and hot spices, ha, ha. :D

Whatever coins will be visible on banner, there will be always someone who could feel upset for some of reason so there is no way to make perfect banner for everyone, well, maybe only if there would be only one coin - first coin from Lydia and nothing else all, ha, ha. So the best thing is concentrate to gain own collection and share each other knowledge, and do not think about things who is just impossible to make perfect for everyone, I guess.

Cita: muralisyes, agree, sometimes silence is pure gold, ha ha : )
Cita: muralisjust you have some mad skills to put fire and hot spices, ha, ha : D
Exactly as you stated above. This forum or any other is just silence without a little fire and spice. My reputation precedes me. I enjoy writing, I am opinionated and I do not plan on changing. The silence part on a public forum is the part I do not understand, especially with so many members. I believe I am frequently punished or singled out for simply putting too much of the English language on the English Numista forum. Maybe you are right, silence is golden and the forum on Numista should be no place for discussion. Aside from my fire and spice, please quote my text to point out where I spoke out of line? My jokes and comments were thought out and where possible, I've quoted or displayed the facts and anything I wished to question.

I did not bring up religion, culture, shrines or statues. I did not start the trivial topic. Much like others, I've never considered asking to have the banner display Canadian or Polish coins. I do not believe the world revolves around me or any country I may have patriotic feelings towards. See, again, I'm saying too much for those that prefer silence. Over and out...
Well, I can show you exact place where you jumped out, but.. I am not willing to do that, because it will put this topic in more deep offtopic as it is, I can send you PM if you really want to know my opinion where you jumped, because I think I already told too much in public and I can't see the point to tell everyone here where you jumped out, as maybe they do not care what I am thinking and why should I exhibit private conversation not merged to topic here in public, ha ha. OK, enough is enough, I  am very sorry for offtopic. I will not continue this conversation here.

Hello,
I also think the design of Numista should be changed a bit. It looks so old-fashioned and amateurish.
However, this is not my priority. I hope I can think over it in a few months though. By that time, I will be glad to have some help!
For the moment, I don't think it is necessary to change it. Unfortunately, it's not possible to show a coin from every country.
I have contacted Xavier to know his opinion. Feeling happy that, Xavier posted his comment on this. thank you sir.

First of all a great salute to IMREH. You have very high knowledge on Indian culture. I really feel proud that, you know our culture so well.
SUJIT KUMAR, thanks a lot for supporting me and stands by my side. All other persons, who has understand me and what I want to say. Thanks for supporting me. May be you all are not agree to my point. But, thank you because you have understand me. Really thanks a lot from my heart.

Your Friend,

Cita: XavierUnfortunately, it's not possible to show a coin from every country.
When you do consider it, in order not to upset the countless nationalities that frequent Numista, maybe emphasising Numista's origins, roots, heritage, identity and history through coins would be a good idea? I can always find comfort in an image of Napoleon. French coins are very beautiful and have an identity that is not tied in to British rule. Food for thought.
Here is an easy way out. I think the French franc with Numista on it should stay. It's our history, where Numista came from. Then have Numista pick the coins. Like the 20 top coins people have catalogued. What ever they are. The ones everyone has.  yours daryl
It is, what it is, or is it.
Some one had a good will to create a website like this and made us connect and swap. I feel we are talking on a point which is absolutely useless.  This discussion has made us to quarrel rather than to unite us as numismatists.
Cita: tamilcoinsI feel we are talking on a point which is absolutely useless.  This discussion has made us to quarrel rather than to unite us as numismatists.
I agree. Putting down the coin images of other countries, over that of your country rubs me the wrong way. The public visuals of a website should not be influenced by anyone, except the person in charge of the website. Asking for changes that are beneficial to all is a wonderful characteristic. Requesting or demanding, depending on how you interpret, a selfish change based on race and nationality also does not sit well with me. Let the design department look after the banner. It never bothered me before, it can stay as is, makes no difference to me. We have many options of how to personalize our presence on Numista. Some people have flashing avatars that display two sides of a coin. I've also seen ones where you can have multiple coins flashing. Great way to display the coins that matter to you most.

Oh yeah, and be active on the forum, so people could see your avatar often. ;)
Cita: ALLRED1950I think the french franc with numista on it should stay. Its are history, were numiista came from.
I think it should acquire a patina with age, just like the website. Doesn't it look cleaned to you? ;) (joke)
just around the ears
It is, what it is, or is it.
That's it, I've decided to change my tune. My new idea is to only have LOST, MISSING and STOLEN coin pictures on the banner and in the random coin display. Look at Numista's home page, as a milk carton for missing coins. All we need are some photos, their last seen or tracked dates and a reward for finding them. ;) A fitting solution to a common Numista problem.
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS COIN?

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3927.html

Sorely missed.  Last seen in my 5 year-old's hand as he headed for the corner shop. Returned 5 minutes later carrying a 50c mixture of sweets and without the coin.  50c reward if found.
