Funnily enough, it wasn't actually him that named it, and other things that bear his name. Tasmania was originally called "Van Diemens land" by Tasman and New Zealand was named "stadten land" it was renamed Nova Zeelandia by cartographers and then Cook renamed it to New Zealand. I really must make a pilgrimage some time and visit our namesake on the other side of the globe.
Sorry I can't help you with your question but it just triggered the history enthusiast in me.
Do you know if the Dutch really knew how to navigate, or were they just roaming blindly around on the high seas? (Like the Flying Dutchman?)
The Vikings could find their "colonies" (Groenland, Iceland, Faroe Islands and of course England) again and again some hundreds years before the Dutch started sailing, yes, I know, they never really liked "Wineland", so they left that to Columbus
They found New Zealand and Australia (the former New Holland btw) by accident. They were going to the Netherlands East Indies but a storm blew them towards Australia and New Zealand.
This is going a bit off topic.
For Campen/ Kampen, Zeeland and Holland etc go to the Dutch republic. Frisia only covers coins from before the Dutch states, during the Friese Vrijheid amd Sceat era.
