Seems that they just get rejected any more. I've been trying to get some of my older hammered coins in to the catalog. As you can imagine many hammered coins aren't always great looking coins. I added a Phoenician coin a few weeks ago, rejected because of the bad picture of a bad example and it didn't list the ruler or denomination. (Coin is very small at 10 mm in diameter). I had the catalog information in the notes, with page number and everything. Catalog didn't list the ruler or denomination, and there is some question as to what those would be any way. But you think even a worn example is better than nothing, and why label a coin a certain denomination or ruler if we don't know? Or if even the experts have different opinions?
Today I had an Indian states coin rejected. I added a Mysore 1 Kasu coin, with page number from Krause catalog and KM number. Explicitly state (in the new comments section) that it is "
Anonymous hammered
dump coinage. Weight varies between 2.37 and 3.11 grams."
I get a rejection message back: "Comment: Diameter, ruler and date are missing"
Diameter I can kind of understand, but dump coinage is by weight and is irregular in diameter (which I noted), so the weight is what is important. But how can I get the ruler and date for an Anonymous issue? The Krause catalog just has them at the beginning of the Mysore section because no one knows.
