Cita: HouseofhamHere is a list of my coins (mostly silver bullion/commemoratives, 2010 and later) that are in the Colnect catalog but not in Numista's: http://colnect.com/en/coins/list/custom_list__12/HouseofhamDo you know a way to contact colnect.com? I didn't see a way to. I want to use their pictures.
The source of pictures on Colnect is uploaded by Colnect community members. To avoid issues with copyrights, pictures from Colnect are not authorized on Numista.

The coins in question are mostly from the US and Australia, with pictures coming from the corresponding mints, which are approved sources for use on Numista. A good half of them were submitted to Colnect by yours truly.
And, lets be honest here... The source of pictures on Colnect is no more questionable than on this or any other crowd-sourcing site. They are user-submitted. Excuse my sarcasm, but I don't believe for a second that, when someone submits a picture of their coin claiming they took it, Numista staff goes out of their way to verify it.
I have already talked with Amir Wald from Colnect about copyrights once, when I found some of my own pictures on Colnect. It appears we have completely opposite views on this topic. Whereas Numista tries to control the origin of the pictures and give attribution to original sources, Colnect never mentions the sources and was reluctant to remove copies when I asked for my own pictures.
I can't guarantee all pictures on Numista are correctly credited, but still we try to promote sources from which we have a permission, and we try to control pictures from uncertain sources (Google Search by image is pretty useful) and remove them in case the copy is not authorized.
Only by asking the source of each picture when adding new coins, I could observe an important drop of illegal copies. Avoiding copies without permission is a priority for Numista. So it's OK to copy coins from US mint or the Australian mint, for which we have a written permission, but not to copy any picture from Colnect.
Xavier,
for God's sake!
Do a favour for yourself and your family: do not stress yourself on this!
Read my note here if you will: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic38194.html
or consult a serious legal person who would tell you that you overstress yourself in vain!
Cheers,
Imre
